Soul Journal Days 5 & 6

January 13th, 2009  Posted at   Doing

Sometime last summer I did the first four days of Sarah Whitmire’s Soul Journaling and then stopped.  I’ve been watching Amateur in Art going through the prompts and finally kicked myself in the butt to get going again as well!

On Day 5, Sarah had us dry brush a couple of pages and then do a color wash over them.  I just used a couple of pages that I’d started doodling on, since I’m picking it up again.  I used burnt umber for my wash, probably my favorite color anyway, and then the instructions were to dab the wash with a paper towel to blot some of the color.

My paper towels are embossed with holes in in and I loved the texture and pattern that resulted!  In fact I’m thinking of using this technique in a couple of upcoming projects.

Next she gave a list of things to tear out of magazines. This is why I originally quit following the prompts – I didn’t have a magazine stash. No worries now – my mother-in-law keeps me well stocked.

Here is the final result.  I’m loving this because it really gets my creative energy flowing and gives me great ideas for my work.

  • Wow - I love the detail and texture in the background here. And thanks for visiting my blog. I'm both embarrassed (because I'm such a newbie!) and honored that I gave you inspiration to pickup your Soul Journal again. I've had some interruptions - but I still find it a fabulous experience. I'm learning a lot about art, but also learning a lot about myself in some ways, too. I wish you well on your Soul Journal journey!
  • Thanks for the wonderful comment. You shouldn't be embarrassed - I'm really enjoying your blog and your journey!
